In a recent posting on its iPhone developer site, Apple informed developers how the Core Location framework for the iPhone allows third parties to build applications which know where end users are and can deliver information based on their location, such as local weather, nearby restaurants, ATMs, and other location-based information.

Google has now enabled “Near Me Now” on the iPhone and Android web browsers, whereas before it only worked in the Google Maps application. The usage model is simple enough, just type in google.com, click on “Near Me Now” and then look at what’s around you.

And the latest GPS device maker to release its own iPhone app is Magellan. They’ve announced Magellan RoadMate turn-by-turn navigation application, alongside a “new innovative vehicle mounting cradle for the iPhone and iPod touch devices” that will be available later in December.
