Garmin International and DigitalGlobe have announced the BirdsEye™ Satellite Imagery annual subscription. This subscription allows the Garmin GPS user to transfer an unlimited amount of high-resolution satellite images to compatible Garmin handheld devices.

Garmin today started the launch of its Nuvifone “navigation Phone” in Europe. Initially available in France and Switzerland from Garmin and in Poland, Czech Republic and Ukraine from ASUS, the Nuvifone G60 is however not supported by a single wireless operator across the continent making it a hard sell with a price tag of €599.

AT&T and Garmin International Inc. announced the Garmin nüvifone G60 will be available beginning October 4 only for AT&T customers in the U.S. in AT&T stores and online at www.wireless.att.com.
The nüvifone G60 provides one of the easiest-to-use location experiences available because it is the only phone to fully integrate the world’s best selling GPS navigator with voice, data and mobile web.

KPN and Garmin, the world’s biggest producer of navigation systems, have signed a multi-year agreement that makes mobile data communication between different devices and machines possible. KPN will provide special SIM cards that will be used in Garmin’s new portable navigation system, the nüvi 1690. Users of this system get direct links to current online information such as the weather, traffic and petrol prices.

LBS activity seems to be growing in Europe. Nokia, along with its Navteq subsidiary, is leaning forward to introduce location-based social networking applications on Facebook. In another event, such companies as Navigon and Garmin are rolling out new connected personal navigation devices (PNDs) in Europe — even though many in the industry think that technology isn’t a moneymaker in North America.

Garmin has announced that it will be producing a new navigation unit specifically for motorcyclists called the Garmin BMW Motorrad Navigator IV. The unit is based on the Garmin zumo 660 and adds BMW specific features to the device.
